some of you may already know that angelo is directing play (he wrote) which is being performed on february 8th at robins bookstore. basically, directing this play has turned into an abusive relationship, and angelo is going to spend the next two weeks fist fighting with his new lover. SO! we have two filler films until he can get back to host the jodorowsky series.
the first film, Searching for the Wrong-Eyed Jesus, was recommended to me by one of favorite people in the world, and its absolutely an amazing documentary. the descriptions dont even start to do it justice, but the website is pretty neat. check it out here. Told mostly by Jim White, Searching for the Wrong-Eyed Jesus is a journey into the minds and lives of the folks who live in the deep south. Its a beautiful composition, with vignettes of various musicians and locals that depict a very particular type of southern life, and the dichotomy of sin and evangelical faith. absolutely stunning cinematography, and one of the most haunting soundtracks. music and appearances by:
jim white
johnny dawd
the handsome family
16 horsepower
david johansen
trailer bride
lee sexton
harry crews
and if you have no idea who these people are, seriously, go to the website and check out the musicians and writers page . we will be showing this film tomorrow, january 29th.
the second film, Love Seranade, has been one of my favorite films since i saw it at the San Francisco Film Festival 11 years ago. all i can say, is dont look it up and dont read the description. all you need to know, is that almost the entire soundtrack is Barry White, its filmed in a small town in New Zealand, and it has some of the best characters ive seen in a film, ever. we will be showing this film on february 4th. i leave you with this image.
thats right, thats miranda otto.
